The most common fungus to inhabit the gut is Candida (usually Candida Albicans). As yeast it is a microorganism that lives in small amounts in the digestive system in everybody and only becomes a fungus if the intestinal balance becomes upset.
Under certain conditions Candida gets out of control, proliferating and invading deeper into the cells of the gut and other organs, such as the liver and kidneys. A good analogy is to liken it to dry rot of a house that eats into the mortar between bricks. Over zealous candida invades the cytoplasm of cells passing through cell walls, causing damage and producing chemicals that affect cell functions that can create symptoms.
The fungal roots bury into the intestinal wall creating a “leaky gut” where food particles can get into the blood stream, setting up food sensitivities and allergies. When digested food is passed into the blood stream, exorphins are released. These can switch neurological reactions on and off and create mood swings. The fungus also causes sugar fermentation that leads to the symptoms of bloating, gas and discomfort. Candida can produce up to 100 different toxins that can lead to a diversity of symptoms such as lethargy, joint pains and headaches.A poor immune system
Fungalite Phase 1
This is an unique combination of Olive leaf extract with 6% oleuropeins, Organic garlic powder, Grapefruit seed extract, Cloves and the calcium salt of the fatty acid undecyclenic acid, calcium undecyclenate all of which have been shown to have antifungal or antimicrobial activities.
Interestingly fungi can become resistant to drugs, either mutating or pumping the drug back out again. Ref: . Thomas J. Walsh, M.D., head of immune-compromised host division of the National Cancer Institute of Bethesda, Maryland. Olive Leaf Extract by Dr. Morton Walker pg. 196.
Olive leaf extract- Oleuropeins has been shown to be effective against candida albicans within 24 hours. It appears to work by interfering with the production of important amino acids within the fungal cells that are essential for their survival. Oleuropeins have also been demonstrated to stimulate phagocytosis (the engulfing and gobbling up of microbes by your own immune cells) Ref: Olive Leaf Extract by Dr. Morton Walker pg. 42.
Organic Garlic Powder- Garlic contains many antifungal compounds including allicin, allin, allinase and S allycysteine. Some studies have shown garlic to be more effective than Nystatin at killing candida. It is always important to use organic garlic as the sulphur related compounds allow the garlic to absorb heavy metals such as arsenic which is the basis of many pesticides.
Grapefruit seed extract. – Studies performed in 1990 found grapefruit seed extract to be more effective than 30 antibiotics and 18 fungicides in its antifungal capacity.

Cloves contain a high Eugenol content. Eugenol has been shown to inhibit candida, aspergillus and other fungi, appearing to be as effective as Nystatin http://jmm.sgmjournals.org/content/58/11/1454.abstract

Calcium Undecyclenatethis is the calcium salt of the fatty acid Undecyclenic acid. It appears to work in an antifungal capacity by interfering with the fatty acid biosynthesis of the fungal hyphae or germ tubes. The salt form of Calcium undecyclenate appears to be 4x more effective than undecylenic acid alone in its antifungal capacity.

Medium chain fatty acids such as undecyclenic acid have been shown to disrupt the pH of the fungal cell cytoplasm by being proton carriers.

Fungalite Phase 1 should be taken with Combocillus, a combination formula of 7 important probiotics. Probiotics are best taken at night before bed.
After any fungal infestation of the gut it is important to normalise the flora and fauna of the gut. Use of this broad-spectrum probiotic enables restoration of the normal gut bacteria.
This is a very important part of any anti candida program and recovery in addition to minimising intake of refined sugars that will feed a fungus.
