Lactobacillus bulgaricus is one of the digestive bacteria of the gastro intestinal tract. It has been cultured on a non-dairy medium.

It is also one of the bacteria used as a starter culture for yoghurt. This capacity to help other bacteria grow is thought to make it useful in promoting the natural flora of the intestine.
