Threonine is found in the central nervous system. It helps make up collagen, elastin and tooth enamel and is involved in the synthesis of glycine and serine.
It combines with methionine and aspartic acid to aid the liver in fat digestion, decreasing fatty build up in the liver.
Threonine is one of the essential amino acids; an amino acid that the body needs, but which it cannot make for itself.

As an amino acid, threonine can be found in most protein-rich food sources, such as meat, poultry, dairy products, pulses, nuts and seeds.
A guideline daily requirement for threonine is about 900mg.
