What is Green Tea and Mung Bean Extract?
Metabolics Green Tea and Mung Bean Extract contains two natural food ingredients:
Green Tea
Mung Bean
Green tea originates from the plant Camellia sinensis. Unlike black tea leaves, which oxidise and wilt from the minute they are picked, green tea leaves do not oxidise and retain the original nutrients.
Mung beans (Vigna radiata) are part of the legume family, the same as beans and lentils. They have been consumed for many years in Asian cuisine as an ingredient in both savoury and sweet dishes. They are summer-growing legumes, as annual vines with yellow flowers and fuzzy brown pods, grown in tropic and sub-tropic regions. Mung beans (Vigna radiata) have a history of consumption, with powdered forms of mung bean / mung bean flour having been used in the EU prior to 1997. Mung beans were previously known as Phaseolus aureus and the two names can be considered as synonymous.
What is Green tea and Mung Bean Extract good for?
The key constituents found in mung beans and green tea support the natural process of the immune system's inflammatory activity. This potent benefit is delivered by the novel flavonoids and other molecules found primarily in the seed coat of the Mung bean, and the compound EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), the major beneficial component in Green Tea. Mung bean extract also supports the body's natural antioxidant defence system as it contains the antioxidants vitexin and isovitexin, which has shown, in this study published by the Journal of Medicinal Food, to be involved in the regulation of inflammation-induced lipogenesis, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and lipid synthesis.
Mung beans are also rich in vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids such as phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, arginine and more.
These two extracts work together to support the balance of the inflammatory response by controlling levels of inflammatory cytokines. Cytokines are substances that are secreted by certain cells of the immune system and have an effect on other cells.
As a food, mung beans also contain a balance of nutrients, which include protein and fibre and significant amounts of bioactive phytochemicals.
Who is Green Tea and Mung Bean Extract for?
It is particularly important as we age to support the balance of the inflammatory response as our immune capability is naturally weakened throughout the ageing process.
There have even been studies that refer to inflammaging, whereby as inflammation gathers, the ageing process takes place more rapidly, which can leave us more susceptible to a weakened immune system and the results of this.
