What is Metabolics Liquid Biotin?

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble B vitamin, required to help convert food products, such as carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into useable energy.

Metabolics Liquid Biotin has been launched alongside Biotin capsules to offer a more flexible dose. The recommended half a teaspoon (2.5ml) dose delivers 500 ug D-Biotin (1000% NRV) can be amended by your healthcare practitioner to deliver a dose more appropriate to your specific requirements.

What is Metabolics Liquid Biotin good for?

Biotin plays a vital role in the conversion of food into energy and contributes to the normal metabolism of macronutrients – carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. This means that biotin is instrumental in energy support by facilitating the effective utilisation of glucose from carbohydrates for energy, utilising amino acids from proteins for growth and repair, and processing fatty acids from fats to support cell structures and insulation.

Furthermore, biotin contributes to the upkeep of healthy hair, skin, and mucous membranes, as outlined in the EFSA article “Scientific Opinion on the substantiation of health claims related to biotin and maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes (ID 121), maintenance of normal hair (ID 121), maintenance of normal bone (ID 121), maintenance of normal teeth (ID 121), maintenance of normal nails (ID 121, 2877), reduction of tiredness and fatigue (ID 119), contribution to normal psychological functions (ID 120) and contribution to normal macronutrient metabolism (ID 4661) pursuant to Article 13(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006”.

It aids in maintaining skin health by fostering the production of lipids (fats) within skin cells. These lipids are essential for preserving the integrity and functionality of the skin's protective barrier, which safeguards against moisture loss, irritants, and infections. Biotin also assists in the metabolism of amino acids – the fundamental building blocks of proteins – crucial for the formation of new skin cells and the restoration of damaged tissues.

In hair care, biotin is closely linked with promoting robust hair growth and preventing hair loss. It plays a pivotal role in the synthesis of keratin, a protein that constitutes the structural foundation of hair. Optimal biotin levels ensure the proper production of keratin, contributing to the development of resilient, radiant hair. Additionally, biotin enhances the overall infrastructure of hair follicles, bolstering their strength and resilience.

Mucous membranes, which line various body parts like the mouth, nose, digestive tract, and urinary tract, receive support from biotin as well. By encouraging the production of mucins – proteins that constitute the protective mucus layer – biotin helps maintain the integrity of these membranes. This protective layer aids in trapping foreign particles, lubricating tissues, and safeguarding against pathogens and irritants.

Beyond physical health, biotin supports cognitive health by contributing to the maintenance of normal psychological functions. This relates to the role of biotin in supporting mental performance, encompassing aspects such as concentration, learning, memory, and reasoning.

Who is Metabolics Liquid Biotin for?

Biotin deficiency has been linked to a range of signs. Recognisable signs of insufficient biotin levels comprise of issues such as thinning hair, brittle nails, and skin problems such as rashes and dryness, even extending to dry eyes. The effects of biotin deficiency can be far-reaching, affecting not only physical attributes but also mental well-being, contributing to conditions like depression and feelings of lethargy.

It's important to note that certain lifestyle factors can exacerbate biotin deficiency. Prolonged alcohol consumption, for instance, can hinder the absorption of biotin, potentially leading to lower levels in the body. Additionally, smokers are often found to have reduced biotin levels, emphasising the need for mindful dietary and lifestyle choices to maintain adequate biotin intake and support overall health.
