Prioritising Your Mental Well-being This Month

May 13, 2025Stacie Henson

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the importance of mental well-being and many lifestyle factors that can influence it. While mental health is a complex area, daily habits such as eating a balanced diet, supporting gut health and managing stress may all contribute to a more balanced and resilient state of mind.

This month, we are exploring simple, sustainable ways to care for both mind and body. From including nutrient dense foods in your meals to carving out time for relaxation, small positive steps can help you feel more in control and better supported.

Lets take this opportunity to prioritise self care and nurture our overall wellbeing, one step at a time.

Nutrients That Support Mental Wellbeing

What we eat can have an impact on how we feel, both physically and emotionally. A well balanced diet provides a wide range of nutrients that are important for normal cognitive and psychological function. Here are a few key nutrients to include in your meals:

🧠 Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Found in salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, omega-3s are associated with normal brain function.

🌿 Magnesium – Found in leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, magnesium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system.

🥚 B Vitamins – Involved in normal energy production and psychological function. Found in whole grains, eggs, legumes and green vegetables.

🍊 Antioxidants – Naturally present in colourful fruits and vegetables such as berries, citrus and spinach, antioxidants help protect cells from oxidative stress.

While individual nutrients play a role, the most effective approach is a varied and balanced diet based on whole foods.

Managing Stress Through Daily Habits

Stress is part of life, but learning to manage it in healthy ways can support our overall wellbeing. Here are some simple strategies to try:

🧘♀️ Mindfulness & Breathing Techniques – Taking a few minutes each day for mindfulness or focused breathing  can help bring a sense of calm and mental clarity. Even a few slow, intentional breaths can make a difference.

🏃 Physical Activity – Regular movement such as walking, yoga or dancing can help release tension and improve mood.

😴 Prioritising Sleep- Establishing a relaxing evening routine and reducing screen time before bed may support better sleep quality.

💬 Staying Connected – Talking to friends, spending time with loved ones or sharing a meal can help you feel more supported and connected.

Small regular habits can make a difference over time. It’s about finding what works best for you and giving yourself space for self-care.

Nutritional Supplements for Wellbeing

Although a balanced diet is the foundation of good health, some individuals may choose to include food supplements to support their overall wellbeing. Always speak with a healthcare practitioner before adding new supplements to your routine.

At Metabolics, we offer a range of formulas designed with quality and precision:

Stress Support-  is a supplement that has been formulated with a combination of ingredients designed to support normal psychological function. This food supplement contains Vitamin B12, B6 and Folate and magnesium which contributes to normal psychological function. Alongside Rhodiola rosea which can help reduce feelings of stress-related burnout, Green tea which helps reduce psychological distress and Theanine helps promote production of serotonin and dopamine which affects mood and sleep.

Ashwagandha- Metabolics Ashwagandha is derived from the plant’s roots, which are rich in withanolides—the key bioactive compounds responsible for its wide-ranging health benefits. These natural phytochemicals contribute to Ashwagandha’s adaptogenic properties, helping to promote resilience to stress, support cognitive function, and enhance overall well-being.

5-Hydroxytryptophan- 5-Hydroxytryptophan is a convenient way of supporting a natural sleeping pattern and regulating mood. L-tryptophan can be obtained through dietary sources such as turkey, chicken, pumpkin seeds, spinach, milk, and bananas, but 5-Hydroxytryptophan is produced by the body and some people, therefore, find it beneficial to supplement this nutrient if their body is not producing enough.

B Complex- Metabolics B Complex capsules provide a broad and concentrated combination of all the B vitamins, plus inositol, choline and magnesium. B-complex vitamins are fundamental to your body's energy production, nerve health, and immune function, helping you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. We now offer this in a pot of 60 capsules or 180.

Supporting your mental wellbeing doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Small, intentional choices . like improving your sleep, eating well, and practising mindfulness, can add up to create a big difference over time.
