Threonine (Pot of 100 capsules)
Threonine is found in the central nervous system. It helps make up collagen, elastin and tooth enamel and is involved in the synthesis of glycine and serine.
It combines with methionine and aspartic acid to aid the liver in fat digestion, decreasing fatty build up in the liver.
Threonine is one of the essential amino acids; an amino acid that the body needs, but which it cannot make for itself.
Threonine appears to have two basic function pathways:
- As a precursor of ingredients required for metabolic processes (such as the citric acid cycle). These include succinyl-CoA, acetyl-CoA and pyruvate.
- As an ingredient in the synthesis of proteins and other nitrogen-containing compounds. One such compound in which threonine has a particular significance is glycine, another amino acid with a number of important functions.
As an amino acid, threonine can be found in most protein-rich food sources, such as meat, poultry, dairy products, pulses, nuts and seeds. A guideline daily requirement for threonine is about 900mg.
This product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
