What is Lectin Support?
Lectins, a form of protein, are abundant in foods you eat and high concentrations are found in foods like beans/legumes and grains (gluten, corn and wheat in particular). Whilst lectins can be reduced by cooking processes you can’t eliminate them totally. Your body can’t digest or remove these very easily.
The cell lining of your gut is packed with healthy gut sugars, which the Lectins can attach to. Once stuck to a sugar molecule, the body sees this as a foreign molecule and so the immune system is alerted and it reacts by signalling your white blood cells, which can result in inflammation.
To help disrupt this process, Metabolics Lectin Support contains alternative (decoy) sugars for the lectins to bind to instead, these are:
N acetyl glucosamine, a monosaccharide and derivative of glucose. It is the most abundant sugar that occurs naturally in the body.
Bladderwrack, a seaweed which is known to be a rich source of Fucose.
Larch arabinogalactan, a natural substance sourced from the wood of the Larch tree. It is a fibre rich complex carbohydrate.
D-Mannose, a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates.
Lectin Support also contains Okra powder, which is a mucus-like material that coats the digestive tract, making the gut lining slippery and helps to mop up the lectins that are now bound to the decoy sugars.
It also contains Xanthan gum, which is a gel like polysaccharide manufactured using a natural fermentation process. It moves through the digestive tract collecting the lectins stuck to the decoy sugars and helps to flush them/eliminate them from the body.

Who is Lectin Support for?
Not everyone reacts in the same way to lectins. For some people they see little to no difference in digesting foods containing lectins to those without. However, for people who find it difficult to digest lectin-rich foods, Metabolics Lectin Support Formula could help with this digestion process.
Foods that contain lectins:
- Legumes, this includes beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas and peanuts
- Squashes, such as courgette and butternut squash
- Vegetables of the nightshade family, such as tomatoes, potatoes and peppers
- Grains, including grain-produced products such as bread and cakes
- Dairy, such as milk
While cooking methods can reduce lectin levels in foods, they can’t be eliminated completely. This is the same reason why kidney beans need to be thoroughly cooked as the lectin phytohaemagglutinin can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea when red kidney beans are uncooked. This is why it is not recommended to cook kidney beans in a slow cooker as the temperature is not hot enough to remove lectins.
